Showcase Project

The specific project I chose from throughout this class is the paper we did on Discourse and the connections between James Gee, June Jordan, and Lisa Delpit. In my paper my main claim came to represent a disagreement with certain ideas in Gee’s article, and I used Delpit and Jordan to support my argument. One issue I had was that Gee had a portion where he explained that people coming from minorities, and women would have a difficult, or impossible time learning a new Discourse. My claim including this ended up becoming, “Being a minority does not mean that your dominant Discourse is wrong or that other Discourses are superior, your dominant Discourse is who you are and does not limit you as Gee would make it seem.” Throughout the paper I stuck to this claim, and used parts from the Delpit and Jordan readings to support, and add to my claim. I chose this article due to the vast revisions I did after my first draft, because I personally feel that on this paper, compared to the other one I did, I can talk more about what I changed from my draft to my final copy.
